April 2019 Golf Notes by Scott Cameron

I hope you're getting excited about the upcoming golf sea-son. I'm down in South Carolina as I write this - hoping to get a few rounds in before returning to Vermont. Course Superintendent Mike Nuss reports that we are about a week behind last year's opening due to the tough winter. So at this point we're hoping for a May 1 opening. Pray for good weather and maybe we'll get out sooner rather than later. If a Work Bee is needed (most likely) we'll get the word out by email.

I'm extremely gratified to confirm the rumor: Lynn Ribolini has agreed to come out of retirement to oversee the operation of the Pro Shop for at least one more season! Rib has done a fine job over the past few years and MECC really needs his experience and expertise. Nick Marro will also return on a part time basis. Rob Miller has agreed to work part time as well, and will be running the Men's League this year. Rib is recruiting a few additional part time people to round out the staff, so you might see a few new faces as well.

The Golf Committee has approved its budget for the coming year; it now goes to the Lodge Floor for final approval with the rest of the budget for Lodge 924. Many thanks to Sean Hoar for his hard work on the budget. The Committee is also in the final stages of crafting the Schedule of Golf Events for the coming season. A few early dates to keep in mind: Tues-day April 16, 6 pm - organizational meeting for the Men's League. Representatives for each team should
attend. Wednesday May 8: Women's Twilight League starts (weather permitting), 5:45 pm shotgun start. Tuesday May 14: Men's League begins. We will hold our first Fun Night on Thursday May 23 and we've also scheduled a one day Ryder/Solheim Cup match on Saturday May 25 to raise money for the Golf Equipment Fund.

I look forward to seeing you at the MECC Kick-Off Party and Membership Raffle, Saturday April 27 starting at 6 pm. Tickets are $20 per person; we'll have appetizers and cash bar. Should be a blast. There are still a few tickets left - you can get yours at the Members' Lounge. First prize is a season's membership. If you've already purchased yours, you will get your money back (except the sales tax). Four other great prizes too. Let's start the year off right!

I'm hoping to see everyone back for the 2019 season. We've got a very special thing going here at MECC, but we need more members and casual golfers to keep the doors open. Consider participating in our tournaments, leagues and Fun Nights. Tell your friends about the golfing experience at MECC: All members will receive 4 greens fee passes and we hope you use them to introduce friends and family to MECC.

See you on the course SOON! Scott

Women’s Golf Notes by Patty Baroudi

As spring approaches it's time to start thinking about golf! I'm hopeful that the snow will be exiting soon & we'll be out on the course in April or maybe May? One can hope!

The 2019 Preseason Meeting of the MECC Ladies' Association will be held on Wednesday, April 24 at 5:30 pm at the Montpelier Elks Country Club. Snacks will be provided. Information & resources on the new rules of golf will be shared along with information about league play, tournaments and other events hosted by the Association. Bring your friends & meet others interested in playing.
