September 2017 Golf Notes by Tom Burrington

Summer may be winding down, but the best two months of golf in Vermont are right in front of us. Let’s all get out and enjoy them. We crowned our 2017 club champions in August. Kevin Lunn took the championship flight, Putt Cowens came out on top in the first flight, Mike Hudson took honors in the 2nd flight, DJ Barber held it together and took the 3rd flight and Pam Fecteau was our ladies champion. Congratulations to all of you and thanks to all who participated, it was a great turnout and the scores were very competitive.

Mother Nature and the Equipment Gods continued to provide us with our monthly challenges in August. As a result of these challenges you will be seeing a couple of permanent changes to the cart paths. #7 cart path through the woods will be permanently closed. The path will now go behind the 16th tee box and join into the 5th cart path. The cart path to the men’s 14th will be modified to go behind the women’s 5th tee box and straight to the 14th cart path that comes down from the men’s tee box. A turnaround for carts will be installed behind the men’s 14th tee box. This will eliminate the path that traverses the hill and the washouts that occur there. Fortunately we started the process of updating all of our equipment a couple of years ago, but unfortunately some of the yet to be replaced equipment is more fatigued than we had hoped. Challenges bring out the best in good people, however, and we are blessed to have extremely good people on our team. Sean Beard and his staff, Lynn Ribolini and his staff, your Golf Committee and our
membership, are all committed to improving our club and our golf experience. This fall we will be re-doing the bunkers on 9 and the right one on 6, and we will be using the reclaimed material to finish the parking lot on nine. There will also be some tree trimming occurring, so stay tuned, a fall work bee may be in order.

Our annual equipment fund Calcutta is Saturday, October 14. PLEASE consider purchasing a ticket, either as an individual or a group, this is our most important fundraiser of the year and it is imperative that we have a successful one this year.

Specials: For all you non-members, 1⁄2 year memberships are now available for only $275. Play unlimited golf with no more greens fees while maintaining your new member status for 2018! Play unlimited golf between now and the close of the season at the end of October for $175! Get the details on this and our other golfing specials at the pro shop.
