June 2019 Golf Notes by Scott Cameron

I would love to report that we’ve gotten off to a great start but the only thing that’s been consistent so far this season is the lousy weather. Cold and wet. The start of the Men’s League was delayed two weeks due to weather conditions and as I write this I just learned that the second week of play has been cancelled due to even more rain and standing water on the course.

Some of the rainstorms have been severe enough to damage a couple of the cart paths. Superintendent Mike Nuss has patched things up and with the exception of the 14th tee box, the course is 100% accessible. Mike is also working to address the damage to the first and third fairways caused by hungry crows feasting greedily on grubs. The damaged areas have been seeded and we will temporarily play the first hole as a par three, hitting from forward tees. We need some warm weather though if the seed is to germinate. Keep your fingers crossed.

Twenty-six golfers, both men and women, participated in the Spring Ryder Cup event over the Memorial Day weekend, raising over $500 for course operations in the process. The weather cooperated for a change as we had one of our warmest days for the event. Lynn “Rib” Ribolini and Paul “Blue” Blouin served as captains for the Red and Black teams, respectively. Rumor has it that the Red Team edged out Black for bragging rights (and not much else) by a single point. Thanks to everyone who played, along with the Captains mentioned previously: Kevin Lunn, Judy Ribolini, Paul Laroche, Rob Miller, Pam Fecteau, Dana Nichols, Joe Mulligan, Patty Baroudi, John Barberi. Sampson Ackerson, Justin Barberi, Sam and Doreen Palmisano, Dave Lafreniere, Scott Matava, Tim Rouelle, Arnie Ashford, Mike and Lisa Blanchet, Pete Valz, Schuyler Azur, Paul Waring, Shawn Lindley and Scott Cameron. It was a fun tournament and we hope to see a lot more of you playing in the Fall Ryder/ Solheim Cup matches on September 28 and 29!
