June 2018 Golf Notes by Tom Burrington

The 2018 golf season is off to a great start. Our leagues are up and running, the Spring Ryder Cup was a huge success and Mike and his crew have the course in outstanding shape. We will keep the momentum going in June with the monthly Match Play Tournament (6-3), and The Bear Naked Growler Benefit Tournament for The Freezing Fun For Families charity (formally The McLaughlin) on 6-23 and 6-24. So check your calendars and come out and participate, these events are a lot of fun.

There are many things that make MECC such a special place, first and foremost among them is our members and friends. We are a very small club working with limited resources. So when unforeseen catastrophes occur, financial challenges soon follow. The Golf committee had been struggling to find way to get the cart path on 7 back up and functioning. We solicited two bids to repair the culvert, both were far outside our ability to finance. Knowing this, our good friend Andy Emerson organized a team of local businessmen that consisted of Peter Dubois, Chip Lague and John Pelkey and had the culvert repaired at NO cost to MECC. These gentlemen donated all materials, equipment and labor, absolutely amazing and beyond anything we could have ever asked for. But it didn’t stop there, John Pelkey has also installed footers, re-set and cleaned our granite benches AND an anonymous donor supplied us with new sand for our 9th hole bunkers. When you see these men, please make a point to thank them as they are all true friends of MECC, golf on.

Women’s Golf Notes by Patty Baroudi

Ladies League is off to a great start! The weather has been great & we have a wonderful group of ladies playing this year. It's not to late to signup. If you're interested, contact the Pro Shop or send me an email.

Join us on Sunday, June 17th at 9:30 am for the Ladies Spring Scramble. Open to members & nonmembers, the cost is only $10 for members, $20 for non-members for 9- holes of golf, lunch & fabulous prizes. This is a great opportunity for new golfers & those who haven’t swung a club in a while to play in a stress-free, non-competitive & fun event. Sign-up in the Pro Shop or drop me an email.

See you on the course!
